In a poignant moment shared on social media, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir bid farewell to his cherished pet dog. The cricket stalwart, known for his on-field heroics, took to the social media platform to express his grief, posting a heartfelt note alongside a picture with his four-legged companion.

Gambhir, a self-proclaimed dog lover, often treats his followers to glimpses of his canine companions frolicking with his children. Last November, he delighted fans with a picture featuring his daughter surrounded by their three furry friends.

“Coming back home will never be the same! Farewell my dear,” Gambhir wrote on ‘X’.

The cricketer, celebrated for his stellar performances in Indian cricket, played a pivotal role in securing victories during crucial matches. His standout innings in the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 final and the ODI World Cup 2011 final against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, respectively, remain etched in cricketing history. Gambhir’s contributions were not just limited to the cricket field; his love for dogs and family is evident through his social media shares.

Gambhir, the accomplished left-handed batter, left an indelible mark on cricket with a stellar career across various formats. From Tests to ODIs and T20s, Gambhir’s consistency shines through. Notable highlights include his Test career featuring 58 matches, 4154 runs, and a high score of 206. In ODIs, he amassed 5238 runs with 11 centuries and 34 fifties.

T20 Internationals witnessed Gambhir’s agility with 932 runs and a strike strike rate of 119.0. His impactful contributions extend to the IPL, where he scored 4217 runs in 154 matches. Beyond international cricket, Gambhir’s first-class and List-A performances further underscore his cricketing prowess, reflecting a career defined by resilience and impactful contributions.

Since bidding adieu to international cricket in 2016, Gambhir has embraced roles in broadcasting and mentoring. Recently named as the mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024, Gambhir is set to return to the franchise in a new avatar.
