New Zealand continued their winning streak as they outplayed Bangladesh by eight wickets in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 13, Friday. The Kiwis opted to bat first after winning the toss.

Daryl Mitchell’s unbeaten 89 runs off 67 balls helped New Zealand achieve 248/2 in just 42.5 overs while chasing a 246-run target. His knock was studded with six boundaries and four maximums. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson, who made a comeback to the game after an extended layoff, was forced to retire after a gritty knock of 78 runs off 107 balls, which included eight fours and one six.

Apart from both, opener Devon Conway also produced a significant contribution for the side, scoring 45 runs. Meanwhile, Shakib and Mustafizur Rahman made one scalp for the Tigers.

After Litton Das was dismissed with the very first ball of the game, Bangladesh found themselves in threat as Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson had them reeling at 56 for four in the 13th over. When Bangladesh reached 156 in the 30th over, Shakib slammed 40 off 51 balls, including three fours and two sixes, and added a 96-run partnership with wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim for the fifth wicket. However, Ferguson subsequently sent Shakib back to the pavilion to claim his third wicket in the game.

Mushfiqur hit 66 off 75 balls for a much-needed half-century, packed with six fours and two sixes before being dismissed by Matt Henry. Mahmudullah, meanwhile, scored a vital 41 off 49 balls near the end, hitting two fours and two sixes.

Ferguson was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand, who finished with figures of 3/49 in his full quota. Meanwhile, Boult and Henry scalped two dismissals each.
