The final of the ODI World Cup 2023 was won by Pat Cummins-led Australia in dominant fashion. Taking on the unbeaten Indian team, the Men in Yellow put in a brilliant performance and clinched their sixth World Cup title in Ahmedabad on November 19.
The Aussies were set a target of 241 runs to chase and win the game. The side found itself in trouble after India dismissed their top-order quite cheaply. As Marnus Labuschagne came in to bat, the star batter was welcome with some sledging from the Indian players.
After the game, Labuschagne revealed what went on in the middle, especially with Virat Kohli. The 29-year-old revealed that he could not hear anything due to the loud crowd present at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
“It was so loud and the wave of momentum India had was immense. The Indian team were getting into me and all I could say back, and very truthfully at that, was ‘I actually can’t hear what you’re saying over the crowd’. On this bus ride to the ground, there were fans lining the streets from about 5km out. It was amazing to see the fans get behind the game like they did,” Labuschagne said in his latest newsletter My World Cup Final Wrap.
Labuschagne’s resilience alongside Head’s class ensures victory for Australia
Speaking of the game, the Aussies were in a spot of bother after losing three early wickets. However, it was Labuschagne and opener Travis Head joined hands and propelled the Men in Yellow to a brilliant win. abuschagne scored 58* runs in 110 deliveries, whereas Travis Head played a masterful knock of 137 runs in 120 balls. Their partnership ensured that Australia defeated India by six wickets and won the World Cup. As for team India, Jasprit Bumrah was the highest wicket-taker with two wickets to his name while Mohammed Shami and Siraj struck once each as well.
