The stage for the ODI World Cup 2023 is all set as India take on Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. As both sides gear up for the final, there could be many strategies that come into play in the final.
Speaking of the same strategies, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina recently came forward to talk about how he thinks Indian skipper Rohit Sharma should bowl against Australia in the summit clash.
It is worth noting that Rohit rolled his arm in game 45 of the tournament against the Netherlands and even managed to take a wicket in five deliveries.
“I would say Rohit Sharma should bowl 2-3 overs. When the opposition has a lot of left-handers, he could be useful, especially early on. They have Travis Head and David Warner; why don’t you come and bowl 2-3 overs? This way, you can give two extra overs to Shami or get Bumrah to bowl two more overs early on,” Suresh Raina told IndiaToday.
You don’t need to play Ashwin: Raina
Furthermore, Suresh Raina also talked of the potential lineup that India could field against Australia. Suggesting that Rohit Sharma should bowl against Australia, Raina opined that it would eliminate the need to play Ravichandran Ashwin and branded Mohammed Siraj to perform well in the final.
“Rohit should bowl two overs tomorrow, then you don’t need to play Ashwin. Siraj has been bowling well for the last 16 months. One bad game, and he can’t play the World Cup final. You never know; he might be the Man of the Match tomorrow,” Raina added.
The Indian team is in search of its third ODI World Cup title, second at home. The Aussies have won the title five times, and they will be keen on toppling the Men in Blue at home and winning their sixth World Cup glory.
