Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur showed great skills at the boundary ropes during the ongoing 9th game of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Afghanistan. The match is currently taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. 

Shardul Thakur’s staggering effort on the field saw India taking their second wicket in Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The Indian all-rounder showed great presence of mind during the 13th over of the game when Hardik Pandya bowled a quick short ball. 

Rahmanullah Gurbaz got hurried with the pace of the ball as he attempted the pull. The ball took the top edge and went towards the deep backward square leg boundary. Shardul Thakur took the catch on the first attempt but he realized that he was going past the boundary line. 

Shardul Thakur flicked the ball away as he passed the boundary rope. He came back in time to take it on the second attempt and send the Afghanistan batters packing. Here’s the video: 

Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave a great start to the team but couldn’t carry on. He ended with the score of 21 runs off 28 balls. His wicket saw Afghanistan tumbling at 63/2. The team would be hoping to get got total on the board.

Shardul Thakur however, didn’t stop there as then chipped in with the ball as well. He trapped Rahmat Shah in lbw. The pacer bowled a fuller delivery on middle and leg stump. The batter came forward for a dive but missed the ball. 

The ball nipped back in and beat the inside edge to hit the front pad first, then the back one. The umpire termed him out but he opted for DRS. It showed umpires call and the batter had to remove. He scored 16 runs off 22 balls. With this wicket, another Afghan batter got out after a start. They were left tottering at 63/3. The onus will be on the middle order to take them to fighting total.
