Veteran fast bowler Mohammad Amir has expressed his displeasure with the Pakistan team’s management over their selection decisions in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Amir’s criticism centers on the inclusion of Hasan Ali as a replacement for the injured Naseem Shah, while young talent Mohammad Wasim Jr. remains underutilized.

Mohammad Amir’s remarks came after Pakistan’s loss to arch-rivals India by seven wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He raised concerns about the team’s preparation and selection choices, especially the decision to bring Hasan Ali into the World Cup squad.

“Since we are talking about the Pakistan team, let me tell you where the problem is. Our preparations were wrong. Hasan Ali came into the World Cup after Naseem Shah got injured. Hasan Ali was not even in their plans. He was injured and not even playing,”  Mohammad Amir stated in an interview with Geo Sports.

Hasan Ali, in the three matches he has played in the tournament, has managed to claim seven wickets. However, his economy has raised concerns, as it has been on the higher side.

Mohammad Amir Feels Mohammad Wasim Jr. Should Play Instead Of Hasan Ali

Mohammad Amir emphasized the need for careful preparation and foresight in terms of player selection, particularly in the bowling department. He pointed out that Pakistan should have groomed a bowler capable of pairing with Shaheen Shah Afridi with the new ball, instead of relying on last-minute replacements.

Amir expressed his disappointment with the limited opportunities given to Mohammad Wasim Jr., a promising young talent who had been part of the team for three years. Amir questioned the logic of having Wasim Jr. play only one match and then sit out for the next two, while a replacement player from outside the squad is given a prominent role in the team.

“The one we were carrying for three years, Mohammad Wasim Jr, plays one match and sits out for the next two. He is still with the team but is on the bench. And the one who came in as a replacement is bowling for Pakistan. You didn’t prepare someone to bowl in the new ball and who has come from outside is playing,” Mohammad Amir added.

Currently placed fourth in the tournament table, Pakistan’s next challenge awaits them against Australia on October 20 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The upcoming matches will test Pakistan’s ability to adapt, strategize effectively, and make the most of their resources as they strive to advance in the World Cup.
