Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj talked about the plan behind the wicket of Abdhulla Shafique in match 12 of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Pakistan. He said that he spoke to skipper Rohit Sharma and they decided about what to bowl.

Mohammed Siraj was one of the key performers in India’s win against Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The fast bowler although was taken for runs early on, he provided his team with crucial breakthroughs at crucial junctures.

Pakistan openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq gave a solid start to the team. They played crisp shots at the top and India were under pressure. However, Mohammed Siraj made sure that he brought his team back into the game. The pacer trapped the right-hander in lbw and sent him packing.

After both the Pakistan openers were back in the hut, skipper Babar Azam (50) and Mohammed Rizwan again put pressure on Indian bowlers. But it was Mohammed Siraj again who put his team at the top. He rattled the stumps of Pakistan’s captain to put pressure on them.

Mohammed Siraj opened up about Abdullah Shafique’s wicket and revealed that he set up the batter for short balls and then pitched the ball up to trap him in lbw. Speaking during the post-match press conference, he explained:

“Abdullah Shafique’s wicket was a plan because I had spoken to Rohit Bhai – I had bowled a bouncer to him before but he got stuck in the middle. Then I talked to Rohit for a while and spent some time there. He thought I was going to bowl bouncer again. He was on backfoot and I pitched the ball up and got a success.”

Mohammed Siraj further lavished rich praise on his fellow bowlers, saying that everyone was performing well and helping the team to win. He explained:

“You see, our bowling unit is doing so well from the last three matches. It’s not like only one person is performing. Overall, the bowling unit is performing well. If you don’t get a wicket, you’re building pressure and putting in a dot ball. In this, the team will get the success and the team will get the help.

When Jassi (Jasprit Bumrah) bowls the ball – you can see what line is better – Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj further added that he watches Jasprit Bumrah and from his bowling, he assesses which line and lengths to bowl. He added:

“When Jassi (Jasprit Bumrah) bowls the ball – you can see what line is better on the wicket. When you’re on the third man and the final leg, you get to see the line and get some information from the keeper that this line is better on the wicket. So, it becomes easier to execute.”

Jasprit Bumrah was awarded Player of the Match for his performance against Pakistan. He bowled magnificently well and returned with the figures of 2/19. India will next take on Bangladesh on Thursday (19th October).
