Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) Talent Search and Academies director, MSK Prasad talked about LSG’s opening pair in the IPL 2024. KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers opened for most of the season and when Rahul got injured, it was Quinton de Kock opening with Kyle Mayers. However, KL Rahul has not opened the batting after returning from his injury but has played an important role as a middle-order batter and has excelled in his role.

KL Rahul will be leading the side in the IPL this season but he is not likely to open the innings for LSG. The Lucknow-based franchise traded Devdutt Paddikal ahead of the auctions and he can be one of the options for LSG to open the batting as he emerged as an opener for RCB during IPL 2020 and played extremely well in that season. KL Rahul also asked LSG management to allow him to be flexible with his batting position and bat at the middle order as he is preparing for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

MSK Prasad was asked by Irfan Pathan about KL Rahul’s batting position to which MSK Prasad talked about the solid bunch of openers in their squad and how KL Rahul can be tried at the middle order as he has already batted in the middle for the Indian team in ODIs and now it will be a new experiment for the batter to bat in the middle order in T20s as he will now need to charge according to the situation.

“We have solid openers, we’ve taken up Devdutt Paddikal also. We might think about him (KL Rahul) as a middle order also and that’s what he has been playing for India and he has been successful also. Let’s not forget that and with Devdutt Paddikal coming in we have a lot of strength. Quinton de Kock is at the top of the order, so we might experiment with him not experiment as he’s used to also. He has been doing very well for India in that middle order, hopefully, I think the team management might also look at,” said MSK Prasad on Star Sports.

Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Paddikal are most likely to open the batting for Lucknow Super Giants in the upcoming season as they will make a good pair while Kyle Mayers can come at No.3 and KL Rahul can come at No.4 or No.5 as he already has experience of playing in this position in ODIs and Tests. KL Rahul has given some extraordinary performances in the middle order for team India and will also prove worthy for his IPL franchise as he bats down the order.
