While Rinku Singh is being compared consistently with MS Dhoni because of his undeniable finishing abilities, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has compared him with another India cricketer. The highly-rated batsman has had a stunning year so far, starting with his impressive campaign in the IPL where he showcased to the world what he is capable of.

In 14 games, the Kolkata Knight Riders star scored 474 runs at a stunning strike rate of almost 150. He also played one of the best knocks in the history of the IPL this year, smashing five sixes on the last five balls of the match to snatch a miraculous victory for his side against Gujarat Titans. The stunning displays paved the way for his maiden India call-up and he has been impressive in international cricket so far. Rinku Singh has scored 180 runs in 6 T20I innings so far at an average of 60 and a strike rate of over 187. In those 6 outings, he has smashed 17 fours and 11 sixes.

Sunil Gavaskar praises Rinku Singh:

Sunil Gavaskar has heaped praise on Rinku Singh and called him a gifted cricketer. The former India batsman also lauded the youngster for his perseverance, highlighting that the setbacks did not stop him from proving himself in the IPL.

“Talent – it’s not given to everybody. You can love the game. You can play all day, but sometimes you know you might not quite have the talent, but he has the belief that he could do it, and that’s what he’s done over the last 2-3 years.

“Again here in the IPL, he was in and out of a lot of teams when he finally got the opportunity and the way he grabbed it (was amazing),” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Speaking further, Sunil Gavaskar compared Rinku Singh to the legendary Yuvraj Singh, saying that the fans expect him to play like the former India batsman.

“And now he’s part of an India team. And now there’s so much, so many high expectations of them. They are now expecting him to be another Yuvraj Singh. Rinku Singh – Yuvraj Singh. So if you can do even a fraction of what Yuvraj did for Indian cricket, then he will have done wonderfully well,” Gavaskar said.

Rinku Singh is currently in South Africa for the T20I and the ODI series. The first T20I of the three-match series was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Sunday (December 10) due to rain.
