The 28-year-old Sri Lanka National Cricket Team right-handed batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama imitated the iconic “bat does the talking” celebration of India National Cricket Team batting maestro Virat Kohli after hitting his maiden ODI century.

Samarawickrama set the stage on fire in the eighth match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Tuesday, October 10, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad against Pakistan.

He batted staggeringly well and was involved in two tremendous partnerships. He first stitched together 111 runs in 69 balls with Kusal Mendis and then 65 runs in 66 balls with Dhananjaya de Silva.

As Sadeera Samarawickrama completed his maiden ODI ton for Sri Lanka National Cricket Team, the batter brought out a “bat does the talking” celebration, which was made famous by the India batting great Virat Kohli.

Notably, Virat Kohli played a brilliant knock in the Perth Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series, and after completing his ton he gestured that he was letting his bat do the talking.

Really happy about the performance in this match – Sadeera Samarawickrama

Speaking during the mid-innings break, Sadeera Samarawickrama said that he was delighted with his performance as he badly wanted to hit an ODI ton. He also lauded Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis for their performance in the match. He elaborated:

“Really happy about the performance in this match. I didn’t get a hundred before. I badly wanted to get a hundred in my career, I am really happy today.

“Pathum Nissanka and Kusal batted really well, my plan was to be bat positive and give the strike to Kusal Mendis. We both batted really well in that period.

“That was a great partnership. In the first few overs, when I was batting, the wicket was really good. Last 15 overs, the fast bowlers got some grip. I think it wasn’t easy to bat on in the last few overs. After the new ball, pace off is a good option on this wicket.”

Overall, Sadeera Samarawickrama scored an outstanding 108 runs off 89 balls, with 11 fours and 2 sixes, before being dismissed by Hasan Ali in the 48th over of the innings.
