In the ongoing 2023 Cricket World Cup, Pakistan’s pace bowling has come under scrutiny for its lackluster performance, raising concerns about the absence of their ace fast bowler, Naseem Shah. This was evident in their recent match against India, where Pakistan managed to dismiss only three Indian batters. The Men in Green struggled both with the bat and the ball, highlighting the team’s struggles.

While Pakistan’s batting woes are apparent, their bowling attack has also failed to deliver as expected in the World Cup. Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was considered a modern-day great in pace bowling, especially after his performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2023, has faced criticism. Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri, who was commentating during the India vs. Pakistan match, made a scathing remark about Shaheen Afridi, emphasizing that he is not at the level of a legend like Wasim Akram.

Ravi Shastri said

Shastri acknowledged Shaheen’s ability to take early wickets with the new ball but cautioned against overrating him. He stated that Shaheen still has a long way to go before he can be compared to a legendary figure like Wasim Akram.

“Shaheen Shah Afridi is still not at the level of a Wasim Akram. Shaheen can pick early wickets with the new ball and is a good bowler, no doubt about that. But don’t rate him so so highly. Stop saying he is the greatest at the moment. He is not,” Shastri said.

India’s comprehensive victory over Pakistan propelled them to the top of the points table, thanks to a better Net Run Rate (NRR) compared to New Zealand, who also have three wins in three matches. India’s next match is against Bangladesh on October 19, while Pakistan will face five-time world champions Australia on October 20.

Ravi Shastri’s remarks on Shaheen Afridi went viral on social media, with fans sharing the clip extensively. This discussion adds an interesting dimension to the ongoing Cricket World Cup, with the performance of pace bowlers and the comparison between contemporary and legendary players becoming a hot topic of conversation among cricket enthusiasts.
