Former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma achieved an unwanted feat to his name in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Dinesh Karthik in the most number of ducks in the history of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma achieved the feat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR). The 14th match of the 17th edition of the league is taking place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rohit Sharma didn’t have a fruitful outing in front of his home crowd in Mumbai. The Hardik Pandya-led side was asked to bat first and it wasn’t the kind of outing they would’ve wanted. Rajasthan Royals pacer Trent Boult wreaked havoc across the hosts’ batting lineup with his sensational swing bowling.

Trent Boult removed Rohit Sharma on the 5th ball of the first over. The left-arm pacer bowled a short of a length outside off. The Mumbai Indians opener poked at it and got a thick outside edge. The ball seemed to be dying on his way but Sanju Samson put in a brilliant dive to send the batter packing.

Rohit Sharma bagged a golden duck and it was the 4th time when Trent Boult removed the Indian skipper in the T20s. The right-hander has struggled against the Kiwi fast bowler as he has managed just 69 runs against him at an average of just around 18.

This was also Rohit Sharma’s 17th duck in the Indian Premier League. India’s captain sits at the top of the list of most ducks by the batters in the league along with Dinesh Karthik, who also has managed 17 ducks. Glenn Maxwell, Piyush Chawla, Mandeep Singh, and Sunil Narine are on the list with 15 ducks to their name.

17 – Dinesh Karthik

15 – Glenn Maxwell

15 – Piyush Chawla

15 – Mandeep Singh

15 – Sunil Narine

After Rohit Sharma’s wicket, Mumbai Indians found themselves reeling at 20/4

The wicket of Rohit Sharma triggered the collapse of Mumbai Indians in the ongoing game at the Wankhede Stadium. On the very next delivery, Trent Boult trapped Naman Dhir in lbw to leave the Hardik Pandya-led side tottering at 1-2 inside the first over.

Trent Boult, however, didn’t stop there as he then removed Dewald Brevis as well. Nandre Burger also joined the party as he removed Ishan Kishan (16) to reduce Mumbai Indians to 20/4. Skipper Hardik Pandya (34) and Tilak Varma then added 56 runs together to bail the team out of trouble but the right-hander got out to Yuzvendra Chahal in 10th over.

The onus will now be on Tilak Varma and Tim David to take their team to a big total in front of their home ground in Wankhede. The left-hander has batted well so far in the game and would be hoping to cash on the start that he has got. David on the other hand had a good outing with bat in last season and would be keen to continue his good form.
