Rohit Sharma’s weakness against left-arm pacers is not a secret anymore and it was evident once again on Monday (April 1) during the game between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium.

Trent Boult dismissed him for a golden duck and the credit for the wicket should go to RR captain Sanju Samson as well for taking a stunner behind the stumps. After Samson won the toss and opted to bowl first, Boult did not take long to justify his captain’s decision.

The New Zealand star started with three straight dot deliveries before Ishan Kishan took a single on the fourth ball to bring Rohit Sharma on strike. And the India captain was dismissed on the very first ball he faced in the game.

It was a short of a length delivery that was moving away and Rohit Sharma went for a tentative push. The uncertainty cost Rohit Sharma big as he ended up edging the ball behind the stumps where Sanju Samson dived to his right and took the catch with one hand.

Talking about Rohit Sharma’s performance in the ongoing IPL 2024, he started his season with a 43-run knock against Gujarat Titans. In the second game, he scored 26 against Sunrisers Hyderabad before being dismissed for a duck by Boult.

Rohit Sharma is playing in the IPL as a non-captain for the first time since 2013. He led MI from 2013 to 2023 before being replaced by Hardik Pandya. The veteran batsman has not really scored as per his reputation in recent IPL seasons and will be looking to do well this season.

Talking about the game, RR are well on top of the proceedings in the early stages of the contest. After dismissing Rohit, Boult dismissed Naman Dhir for a golden duck as well to reduce MI to 1 for 2 after the first over. In his second over, he dismissed Dewald Brevis for a golden duck too to leave MI reeling 14 for 3.
