Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody offered insights into Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) struggles in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Tom Moody stated that Royal Challengers Bengaluru has yet to discover its best team composition this season.

The Faf du Plessis-led team suffered a 28-run loss against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday, April 2. Despite the favorable batting conditions, the Bengaluru-based franchise couldn’t chase down the target of 182 runs.

RCB was bowled out for only 153 runs in 19.4 overs, marking their third loss in four matches. Besides the struggles with form among various batters, RCB has been altering their batting order, rotating among Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell.

They Are Still Searching For Their Best Combination – Tom Moody

Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Tom Moody pointed out that RCB has yet to find its best batting combination. He emphasized the lack of role clarity within the team and suggested that RCB will persist with experiments until they achieve victories.

“From a players’ perspective, there is talk about role clarity and it looks like there isn’t any role clarity in RCB. They are still searching for their best combination. It’s like until they start winning a couple of games, they won’t settle on that set batting order,” said Moody.

RCB’s recent defeat saw them join MI as the only team with three losses in the tournament, placing them second from the bottom in the points table. They secured their sole win against PBKS, chasing down 177 runs in the final over with four wickets in hand.

Only One Batter In Form, That’s Virat Kohli – Tom Moody

Tom Moody attributed RCB’s poor outings in IPL 2024 to the lack of form among key players aside from Virat Kohli. He emphasized that players like Faf du Plessis, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, and Rajat Patidar are struggling to find their rhythm.

“They’ve only got one batter in form, that’s Virat Kohli. Faf, Green, Maxwell, and Patidar haven’t found their feet yet and they don’t know what their best lineup and batting order is, which is also disruptive in any team environment,” Moody added.

Virat Kohli Tops Batting Charts In IPL 2024

Virat Kohli tops the batting charts in the ongoing tournament, amassing 203 runs at an impressive average of nearly 68 and a strike rate of 140.97. In contrast, Faf du Plessis, Cameron Green, and Rajat Patidar have struggled, averaging below 20, while Glenn Maxwell’s average stands at a disappointing 7.75 across four matches.

Wicketkeeper batter Anuj Rawat, despite a promising start with an unbeaten 48 runs against the Chennai Super Kings in the opening match, has struggled thereafter, scoring only 73 runs in four innings at an average of 18.25 and a strike rate just above 115.

Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror have displayed potential. Karthik scored 90 runs in four matches at an average of 45.00 and a strike rate of 173.07, and Lomror scored 50 runs in two matches at an average of 50.00 and a strike rate exceeding 238.
