Australian opener Travis Head has resumed batting practice in the nets for the first time following a wrist injury sustained against South Africa last month. Travis Head is aiming to make a comeback and join the Australian World Cup squad by the end of the week.

Travis Head sustained a fracture in his left hand during the fourth ODI against South Africa. The left-handed batsman was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against India. Despite recovering from the injury, he was included in Australia’s 15-member World Cup squad.

Head has been gradually increasing his practice, including facing throwdowns in the nets. He is expected to depart from Adelaide on Thursday and arrive in India the following day. However, his travel plans depend on his recovery and readiness for the remaining matches.

Probably Better Than We Hoped – Travis Head

In an interaction with cricket.com.au today, Travis Head provided an update on his recovery, stating that it’s progressing better than expected.

“It’s coming along well, and probably better than we hoped When we decided not to go with surgery, which would have meant a 10-week recovery, we were told it would be a minimum six weeks with the splint before we could look at playing again.”

“Going by that plan, the Netherlands game will be just under six weeks from impact which is a pretty aggressive date so everything would have to go perfectly from here to make that deadline,” Head told cricket.com.au today.

I Was Able To Hit Balls – Travis Head

The 29-year-old is looking forward to rejoining the team and expressed his excitement about the prospect of traveling to India later in the week.

“But we’ll just see how it progresses over the next few days and I’m excited by the prospect of joining the boys over there later in the week,” he further stated.

“I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to bat when the splint came off but, apart from a fair bit of stiffness given I hadn’t been able to use it for the past four weeks, I was able to hit balls and play a fair range of shots.”
