Indian captain Rohit made everyone stand and applaud him with his innings in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against Afghanistan. The senior opener set the stage on fire at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. 

After India restricted Afghanistan to a total of 272 runs, captain Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing and hardly put a step wrong. The right-hander attacked right from the start and put Afghanistan bowlers under great pressure with his sublime batting. 

Rohit Sharma didn’t let any Afghanistan bowler settle in as he took them to runs. The bowlers had no clue what to do, such has been the caliber of his innings. The Indian captain achieved history as slammed his 7th ton in the ODI World Cups, the most by any batter in the 50-over tournament. 

Rohit Sharma brought his ton in 63 balls, the fastest by any batter in the World Cup. He timed the ball to perfection and outplayed the bowlers. As he reached his ton, his teammates including Virat Kohli along with head coach Rahul Dravid and his wife Ritika Sajdeh erupted in joy and gave him a standing ovation.

Rohit Sharma ended with a knock of 131 runs off 84 balls. He batted with a strike rate of around 156 and also smashed 16 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. His knock put India in the driver’s seat and they look set to win the game.

Rohit during his innings shattered quite a few records. One of the massive milestones that he achieved was he surpassed Chris Gayle to become the leading six-hitter in the history of international cricket. 

Rohit Sharma surpassed Chris Gayle’s tally of 553 sixes to achieve the feat. The batter hit 5 sixes in his innings and justified his tag of hitman. He also became the leading six-hitter for India in World Cups.
