Marnus Labuschagne, on Sunday (November 19), starred with the bat as Australia beat India by 6 wickets in the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 to clinch a record-extending sixth title.

They were reeling at 47 for 3 with the likes of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Steve Smith back in the hut. The right-handed batsman and Head quickly steadied the ship and sealed the game by sharing a mammoth stand of 192 runs for the fourth wicket.

While Head departed after scoring 137 runs, Marnus Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 58 off 110 balls. He played the role of the second fiddle to perfection as Head led the charge with the bat. Australia crossed the finishing line in 43 overs and with six wickets in hand.

Watch – Marnus Labuschagne gets emotional:

Marnus Labuschagne found it tough to control his emotions after starring in Australia’s stunning victory. Calling the victory unbelievable, the Australia batter said that the World Cup triumph was his best achievement so far. Labuschagne was not a part of Australia’s preliminary World Cup squad and was later added after an injury ruled Ashton Agar out of the competition.

“Oh mate! What we’ve achieved today is unbelievable, the best achievement I have been part of. To come to India. They were 10 from 10 with one to play with,” said a visibly emotional Labuschagne.

“They (India) have been unbelievable. Our bowlers have been sensational and Travis put on a hell of a show. I know I am a man of faith and believe in God. How things have panned out for me, unbelievable. I am lost for words. Very thankful to the coaches for sticking with me. To play 19 games straight from South Africa. big thanks to God for that,” he added.
