Mitchell Starc picked up 3/55 in the ICC World Cup final against India as the men in Blue scored 240/9 in Ahmedabad. The Aussies are now chasing 241 to win the final and bag their sixth World Cup title.
Starc picked up Shubman Gill in the fifth over to draw first blood and get India into early trouble. He then came back in his second spell to take the important wicket of KL Rahul which meant that India finished way short of when they would have liked to. He ended the campaign with 13 wickets having started with 10 wickets before the start of the game.
Starc along with Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood accounted for seven of the 10 wickets to fall in the Indian innings. He bowled with pace in his first spell and was able to extract reverse swing in his second and third spells.
“You can always plan for things, the way we contributed with the ball is fantastic first up and now out there (need to do the job) with the bat. There is not a whole heap of help for the seam bowlers and swing bowlers, was trying to do a few different things, vary the pace a little bit” said Starc in his mid-innings interaction with Star Sports.

He further lauded his fellow pacers Cummins and Hazlewood and also spoke about the reverse swing they generated in the final overs.
“Patty (Cummins) and Josh (Hazlewood) were outstanding and obviously a little bit of reverse at the back end,” Starc said further.

The pacer further hoped that as a bowling group, they have restricted the opposition inside a reasonable total as batting will get a bit difficult as the spinners start bowling in tandem.
“Hopefully, we restricted them to enough (runs). We bowled second here against England and it was a little dewy, the wicket (today) is a little bit dry and hopefully the dew comes in and we don’t see any reverse in the second innings, not an easy wicket to bat on, the easiest time to bat perhaps is against the hard new ball and there are runs to be scored and it is not going to be easy, but it is what you ask for, it is a world cup final. What more can you ask for” concluded the Australian pacer.
